  1. Reading Log

Today in English class we read in our books. We didn’t go to the library because we didn’t have a double lesson and because the power was out.

I read that Greg and his friend Rowley is going to start a lawn service because they have used up eighty-three dollars that belonged to Rowley’s dads. They spent the money on fruit smoothies at the country-club.

As I said in a Reading Log before was that I thought that the “Reading is fun”-club was going to come down to one member. I was right! Greg is the only one left and he hates it.

  2. In my last posting in the blog, I left off telling you that a Wizard, dwarves and a hobbit were planning their adventure to get a treasure that was guarded by a dragon. They left from The Green Dragon Inn on ponies except for Gandalf who rode on a white horse and set off for the Dragon.

  3. Reading Log.

Today in English class we read our books. I read very little.

    Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland.

Chapter 11: Who Stole the Tarts?

In this chapter Alice was in a court, and the king was deciding who stole the tarts. There were 12 people who were writing what the king said, and one of the people had a very annoying, squeaky pencil, so Alice just took it and threw it away. That man had to write with his finger until the end of the court, which didn’t leave any mark.

  4. REFLECTIVE WRITING

On the seventeenth of November we had double English lesson and on the second period we went to the library. There I changed “The Silver Sword” by Ian Serraillier to “Hole in the Sky” by Pete Hauntman.

I have just started reading the first chapter and I don’t think that I will continue reading it to the very end because this novel doesn’t seem very exciting to me. The main character called Ceej had sister called Haryette and his uncle. Ceej also had a friend called Tim. They had met each other when they were little kids, eight years old. Tim was his best and only friend. Ceej and his sister had been living at the south rim of Grand Canyon for a few months.

One day Ceej was helping his uncle mend the corral fence and he heard the distant putter of an engine. The uncle commanded Ceej to defense and they ran back to the hotel where they had lived. Then Ceej’s uncle kept the gun sticking out the window until he could see the dusty body of Hap Gordon’s Jeep. Ceej and his uncle ran out to greet him. Hap Gordon was with the Survivor, Emory by name. And Ceej’s friend Tim was in the car. Since that first meeting they had got to be best friends.

  5. In this half an hour I read a book called Disgusting Digestions. This book is about all parts of your body. The chapter I read was about your stomach. This is what I read; every 3 days 800 million cells get replaced with another 800 cells, I also read if you had a really big meal you should never lay down or you would start burping. The book gave me a quiz at the end of the chapter, here is the quiz, with which of these can you get heartburn
    A Running
    B Weightlifting
    C Cycling
The answer is A running. When I finished the quiz I finished the whole book. After I finished the book our teacher gave me a Greek myths book.

  6. Reading log
Today, in English we read our books.
I forgot my book at home so I read a myth, Hercules and the 12 tasks. My favourite tasks were the first, the second and the last.
The first task is where he had to battle a fierce lion which eats humans. After he won he wore the lion’s skin in each of his tasks.
The second task was where he had to fight a huge snake which had 50 heads and everytime he killed a head the snake would grow 2 more. He finally won because he found a stick on the floor and some matches too. He lit the stick and then everytime he killed a head he used the stick to kill the head forever.
The last task was about Hercules holding the sky up from a giant. The giant went to get him a golden apple from Brazil.

I enjoyed the story and I hope the entire class can enjoy it too.

  7. This is my good piece English Writing by James Robertson

Today in English we read our books. My book is the Famous Five go to Treasure Island by Enid Blyton. I am enjoying the book and the story is very interesting.
In the part I read, the Famous Five were looking for the steps to the dungeons and Timmy started running after a rabbit like a leopard. Timmy ran after the rabbit around the castle until the rabbit had vanished by jumping down into the well. Suddenly, Timmy jumped down after the rabbit. Timmy fell down the well and then George ran to the well to save him but she was too late. Timmy was falling down the well at top speed.
I hope that The Famous Four(now that Timmy is gone) will find Timmy and also find the steps to the dungeons.

  8. The BFG – Roald Dahl

I am still reading this book. Because there are so many strange words in it and long words it is taking me much longer to read this book.

Sophie is in the cave with the BFG and he is doing his homework. The BFG’s homework is writing labels which he sticks on jars and inside the jar is a dream. On the label he writes down what the dream is about. And then the BFG can choose a dream when he needs one! It was a bit confusing. Sophie starts to read the labels as she is fascinated and one of them is about a boy who is speaking to the President of the United States of America. He is having a long chat with him and telling the President that he will take care something and calling him Mr President. Then he dad wakes him up and says ‘get up you lazy slob or you will be late for school’.

The dreams are in groups like, boys ones, long ones , good ones and bad ones. The bad ones are always fighting to get out and the good ones wait. The labels only tell you a bit about the dream to remind the BFG what it is about.

I haven’t finished reading this chapter yet. Sophie and the BFG are not arguing as much when the giant says things wrong this time.

  9. Reading Log: Tom’s Sausage Lion
This book is written by Michael Morpurgo. Michael Morpurgo won an award called ‘The Whitbread Award’. This book is quite a small book. It has a nice cover by Jason Cockroft. It was first published in 1986 by Corgi Yearling.
Tom saw a lion walking through the woods with a string of sausages in his mouth. He shouted for his mum but she didn’t believe him. He saw it two days later as well. But still no one would believe him.
So one day he was going on a bus when he saw a girl talking about the lion. He asked her if it had a string of sausages in his mouth. She said he had.
After a lot of teasing about the lion at school they walked to the police station and told the officer about the lion. He just laughed and told them to stop wasting his time. They came up with an idea. They would get meat every day and hide next to the meat and then take a photo of the lion. Then they could prove that they have seen it.
But the plan goes a little wrong and they have to change their plan a bit.

    Long Way Home Part 1
This story is by my favourite author; Michael Morpurgo. It has a cool cover illustration by Oliver Burston. The cover has a picture of a flood with lightning near a farm. It was first published in Great Britain in 1975 by Egmont press.
The story starts when George, an orphan child, driving to his tenth new home. He was bored to death by driving to his new house. He was thinking how his new home was going to be like. Probably boring like the other homes he had been to.
When they got to the farm there was a girl with dark brown hair sitting near the driveway. She came and looked in the car. She stared at George for a long time. So he stared back till she opened the door and brought him inside. There was Mrs. Dyer and Mr. Dyer. They told him the girl’s name was Storme and they had a son called Tom who was in the fields moving the cows.
George and Storme went to the fields to look for Tom. They soon found him with the calves there was one calf called Jemima that kept licking him. Tom finally pushed her into the field full of the calves.
Tom did not like George one bit. It was good his silly little sister was always occupying him with questions.
George was starting to like the farm and thought it was the best home he had ever been to. But Storme was a bit pestering with her questions he thought.
Then when Mr. Dyer asked him “I’ll pay you if you help on the farm.” That made him feel that he was different to Tom and Storme. Now he was going to leave this place tonight like he always did. But that night there was a terrible storm.
Suddenly Tom came rushing into his room and shouted “There is a flood! The river has overflowed! There is calves drowning out there and I can’t get them to safety by myself. I need your help.”
“Where are your parents?” George asked.
“They have gone to my grandparent’s house and they won’t be back for an hour!”
Soon they were racing out into the lashing of the rain and the rumbling of the thunder. They went to the bottom field where the calves were. “There should be twelve cows.” Shouted Tom against the wind.
They managed to gather ten, but there was still two missing. So Tom went one way looking for the littlest calf and George went the other way looking for Jemima. George soon heard the mooing of Jemima and ran in the direction of the mooing. He soon discovered that the water was up to his waist. He waded through the water easily until his foot caught something and he stumbled and started to go under the water. He soon regained his balance and his head was out of the water. After he got his courage back he could see Jemima clearly. He led her to the top of the field where the other calves were. Tom was there too with the other calf.
Then they heard the sound of an engine and Tom recognised it as his parent’s car. When they were safely inside, Tom thought differently about George. Now he seemed like his brother.
George was never going to escape now. He had completely forgotten about the money incident.
Then one day they went out on the moor, all three of them. Tom, George and Storme.

  11. Long Way Home Part 2
Then it suddenly got very misty and Storme and George lost Tom. They found they’re way to the stone circle and found shelter under a huge stone. They sat there for a day and night until Tom and his parents found them shivering. They also saw that Storme had sprained her ankle and had to carry her. Tom’s mum insisted on carrying Storme. When they reached the house Tom’s mum had severely injured her spine.
The called an ambulance and it took Mrs. Dyer to the hospital. After that the farm was silent and Mr. Dyer was going to send George back to the orphanage. George was horrified!
But there was no stopping Mr. Dyer. George was sent back on Sunday. When he got tot the orphanage he went straight to his room and made a calendar out of his notebook. Three days later, he had thought of a plan. He was going to escape back to the farm.
He set of the next day. He took lifts often, but his feet still ached from walking. When he reached Exeter, the town Tom and Storme lived in, he was exhausted. But as the farm came into view he found new strength in himself. He went up the lane and drank from the stream. While he was drinking he saw Tom’s reflection.
“There you are George. I thought you would be here at lunchtime with the amount of telephone calls we had about you missing.”
    “Hi Tom, where is Storme?”
“She’s waiting for you with my parents. Come on, my parents are really worried about you.”
So they walked up the hill and they saw Storme racing towards them. Hair flying all over the place.
“Her ankle looks much better!” said George.
“I know,” said Tom. “Everything is better,”
    “Yes,” George said.
