  1. Pablo Picasso

I am going to tell you a little bit about Pablo Picasso. He was born in 1881 on the 25th of October. He was very important as he was one of the most famous artists of the time. I didn't really choose him to be honest. Max chose him and then our art teacher put us together to work on him.

Pablo Picasso was born on the 25th of October. He was born in Malaga, Spain. When he was at the age of being able to speak, his first words were "piz, piz" which was his way of saying lapiz (pencil in Spanish). At the age of seven, he was already one of the best artists in his grade and took courses from his father with oil paintings. He also had a little sister called Conchita who in 1895 died of diphtheria. After this happened, his family and him moved to Barcelona. In Mougins, France, Pablo Picasso died in 1973 8th of April and was aged 91.

We chose alot of colours and alot of cubism in our "miniature art gallery". We chose these items and colours because that is the way he painted.

  2. Selena is the famous Hispanic person who I chose for my project. Here is a bit of info about her:

Selena Quintanilla was born on April 16th, 1971 in Texas, though she is Mexican too. She was shot and killed by the president of her fan club because of jealousy on March 31st, 1995.

Selena was a singer and when she died, George W. Bush, the governor of Texas at the time, declared her birthday "Selena Day". The Warner Brother Company produced a film about her life starring Jennifer Lopez in 1997.

In my art box project, I did a stage with a dressing room on the top floor. I used "kelly" barbie clothes to dress the skeleton- a pink dress, and other clothes on the hangers. I also used small high heeled shoes on the skeleton and by the clothes. There are a selection of little handbags I used on the wall of her dressing room. I put a red electric guitar in the corner of the stage.

  3. Jose Marti
We are supposed to do a biography for the day of the dead in English about a famous person which died.

In this case I am doing Jose Marti. Jose Marti was a Cuban poet writer. He died May 19th 1895. He was born on the 28th of January 1853 that means he only lived 42 years. I chose to do him because I had to choose a famous man or woman and the one I wanted to choose was taken so I had to take another one.

Jose Marti died fighting against the Spaniards. He got killed around midday. They buried him near the place he died. He was born in Havana which is Cuba. He died in Cauto which is Cuba as well. He was so famous that there is a square in America called by his name.

In art we had to bring in a box and make information in the box.

On the floor I made square tiles. Squared tiles are really common in Cuba. I also made some table with domino stones on the table. The dominos are also really common in Cuba. The Cubans play domino all the time.

  4. Joan of Arc
    Facts
Jeanne D’Arc was born in Domremy, France in 1412 also she died on 30th May, 1431 in Rouem, France. She grew up as a village girl, the daughter of a farmer. At the age of 12 she thought she saw a vision of some of the dead saints which included:-Saint Margaret, Catherine and Michael. She led the French army into battle against the English and everytime she was fighting she always had a vision of how to win the war and she always won.
How she died (a little story)
People found out that she was visualising these pictures of the saints and they told the king at once. The king listened to people about her, then one day in 1431, he sent his guards to capture her. The guards found her crying because she had just seen 1 of the visions. She always cried after she had seen a vision because they were so beautiful. The guards grabbed her and bought her to the king, then the king said, “WITCH –WITCH-WITCH!!!”She was put on trial but found guilty of being a witch, so the king burnt her at the stake when she was only 19. Later, she became a saint and now she is 1 of the most popular saints in the Roman Catholic Church.
In Art I did not choose Joan of Arc, instead I choose Frederic Chopin (the famous music composer). I worked on Chopin with Michael. We designed our box like a concert. We also made a piano for him to play on. We created the floor full of notes; of Chopin’s music also we made stage curtains out of his music too.

  5. I’m dead

    Napoleon Bonaparte

Napoleon Bonaparte died on 5 May 1821. I chose to write about Napoleon because I think he is interesting. There is a lot to read about him and he did a lot of good and bad things for France. Napoleon is important because he was an emperor in France and started many wars around Europe.

Napoleon was born 15 August 1769 in Corsica, only one year before Corsica became a part of France. Corsica was part Italy before that time. When he was ten, he started to learn French and started military school in France. When he finished school 1785, he became second lieutenant in the French artillery.
During the French Revolution Napoleon was promoted to command more and more troops of the French military. 1799 Napoleon was asked to help overthrow the French government. He managed to do that and in 1804 and he also became Emperor of the French.
Napoleon started several wars around Europe to gain power. First he was successful but when he invaded Russia in 1812 things started to go wrong. Napoleon and the French were defeated in the battle of Waterloo in 1815.
Napoleon was captured by the British and was imprisoned on the island of Saint Helena where he died 5 May 1821. His remains were brought back to France in 1840. He is now buried in Les Invalides in Paris.

I think it must have been a misunderstanding somewhere because no one told me to write about the same person as we were working on in art. In art I did Alexander Calder and in English I’m doing Napoleon Bonaparte. Now I am starting to realize that something is wrong when everything is not about the same person.

In my box my there are pictures all over the place of Alexander Calder and his work. A mobile is hanging from the ceiling because he did a lot of mobiles. Two wirer sculptures are standing on the floor because he worked with that too. The skeleton is glued onto one of the pictures because you needed to include a skeleton in your box. I painted the box red, the ceiling white, the walls white and the floor brown because I thought it would match. Also the front of the box I shaped like a circus tent because Alexander Calder loved the circus.

  6. William Shakespeare.
On April 1564, a baby was born. He was named William. He would become the most famous play writer of all time.
The Shakespeare family lived in Stratford- Upon-Avon, a little market town in the middle of England. Stratford could be a dangerous place at times. In the summer after William was born, a disease called Plague killed more than 200 of the people who lived in Stratford. William was the eldest of six children. Their home was large and lively.
There was a grammar school in Stratford, with masters from Oxford University. The pupils there learned Latin, Greek and Religion. Parents and teachers were very strict and punished the pupils severely. But sometimes there was wonderful treats. They would go see plays in the center of town.
William married a lady called Anne Hathaway, a farmer’s daughter. They married in 1582 and had three children in the following years. When the next band of actors came to the town he begged them to let him join their group. They soon let him join and were heading for London. William was a good actor and made himself better. People soon got to know his name and William was acting plays from a very talented writer; himself.
William began writing lots of plays about the history. But then he wrote some funny plays called ‘the comedy of errors’. People soon saw that he was a great play writer.
After 1594 William only wrote plays for the Lord Chamberlain’s Men. William soon came up with his best play yet; Romeo and Juliet.
William was too busy to visit his family often. When he got back home one day he found out that his son, Hamnet, had died of an illness.
Play after play, William never ran out of ideas. One day the company had been performing a play in north London. But where the play theatre was, the land owned to a person who suddenly wanted to knock the playhouse down. After a lot of arguing, the company started knocking the playhouse down and then built a new one on the other side of the river.
The king loved plays and soon wanted the company to be called the King’s men. One day when William was very old the theatre blew up, but luckily no one was hurt. The written copies of William’s work were saved as well. William died in 1616.
But he will always be remembered. “My plays were to please.” He said.

  7. Frederic Chopin

I would like to tell you about Frederic Chopin. He is famous for his music as he is a very famous composer. He was born on the twenty second of February in 1820 and died on the seventeenth of October in 1849. I chose him because sometimes I like to listen to his music.

Frederic Chopin is polish but a French citizen. Chopin arrived in Paris in late September 1831. He was one of the great masters of Romantic music. Chopin also played piano very good and fast. Chopin was a skilled pianist, and a large proportion of his works are for solo piano. Many of these works are fairly short in duration but really nice. Chopin died when he was thirty-nine because of pulmonary tuberculosis.

In my art project I work with James and we did a stage with the audience on the front wall and we also put one of his musical compositions on one of the side walls and on the other we put his biography. On the floor we put Chopin playing on piano. We also put his portrait on the rough and colored everything inside with orange. I hope that you will like this box.

  8. The person I am posting into the blog is called Salvador Dali

Salvador Dali is a very famous artist best known for the stunning and strange images in his surrealist work. His painter skills were influenced by the Renaissance masters. His best-known work, The Persistence of Memory was completed in 1931. Dali’s wide artistic range includes film, sculpture, and photography, in group effort with other artists in a variety of media.
Dali explained his "love of everything that is gilded and excessive, my passion for luxury and my love of oriental clothes" to a self-styled "Arab lineage," claiming that his ancestors were descended from the Moors.
Dali was highly imaginative, and also was in the habit of grand behavior, in order to draw attention to himself. This sometimes annoyed those who loved his art as much as it annoyed his critics, since his odd behaviour sometimes drew more public attention than his artwork.

  9. Edith Piaf.

I am going to tell you a bit about Edith Piaf. She was a famous, French singer, and I chose to write about her because she was very famous and important to France. She died in October of 1963, 46 years ago.

    Introduction and Early Life.

Edith Piaf was a French singer. She was born in December of 1915 and died in October of 1963. She was a very famous French singer and she was awarded as the most popular France’s singer. At the age of 1, her parents gave her to her grandmother because of the World War 1, and her dad was a soldier. From the age of 3 till 7 she was blind, because of the disease called keratitis. The recovery of her sight was a miracle, her grandmother sent her to a doctor in a church, and somehow she managed to heal Edith.

    Her Life and Career.

At the age of 16, when the war ended, she worked with her dad, doing acrobatics on the streets to earn money for a living. At the age of 16, she got a boyfriend, and when she was 17, she gave birth to a girl called Marcelle, who died of meningitis at the age of two. Later, she got another boyfriend, who was a criminal, who made her sing in a very bad and unrespectful way. But later Edith Piaf started liking singing, and became a professional singer.

She moved to New York and lived there for some years, but later moved again to France, not long ago before World War 2 started. The Nazi soldiers captured her in France, and she was brought to Germany during the war. She worked in German clubs as a singer until the war ended.
After the war she was married to a famous French boxer called Marcel Cerdan. Unfortunately he died in a plane crash while flying from Paris to New York. It was shocking news for Edith Piaf, and for weeks she cried, remembering her husband. After some years she married a French singer, but then divorced with him after four years. Edith Piaf died from liver cancer at the age of 48.

At art Alex and I are doing a model of Salvador Dali’s house. In case you don’t know him, he was a Spanish artist who drew many famous paintings. We are doing an abstract model of his house, which we painted black. On the back wall we will stick one of his skeleton paintings, and on the two walls on the sides, we will make a branch and a table sticking out of the wall, with some melted clocks on it. On one of the walls we are going to stick his photo and his most famous work, which had melted clocks on it. We have chosen to do Salvador Dali because he was a very abstract painter, and all his works were abstract. That is why we decided to do a table and a branch sticking out of the walls.

  11. Pablo Picasso

I am going to tell you about Pablo Picasso. He was a famous painter from Spain

Pablo was born on the 25th October 1881 in Malaga which is in Spain. I chose Picasso because I had heard of him and I think his paintings are really good. They are colourful and I particularly like the ones of people. Picasso is known around the world as a famous artist. He died on the 8th April 1973 so he was 92 years old!

Picasso was the son of an art and drawing teacher. He went to the Barcelona School of Fine Arts when he was 14 years old and he passed the school exam in just one day. He was a brilliant student. His father realised that his son was good at art and gave him a brush and paint pallet when he was young and told him to paint for the rest of his life! When he 19 years old he went to Paris and loved the city but he didn’t have a lot of money so he had to burn many of his paintings to keep himself warm. Picasso married on 1918 a ballerina called Olga and they had one son called Paulo. They separated when Picasso had a secret affair with a 17 year old girl called Marie-Therese. He continued his affair for a long time and they had a daughter called Maia.

In Art, Charlotte and I had a play Mobil man for Picasso and made chairs. Our floor was colourful to show that he used a lot of colour in his paintings and squared. We also had little framed pictured.
