Please spend fifteen to twenty minutes writing two paragraphs comparing and contrasting the written version of the myth of "Theseus and the Minotaur" and the filmed version.
(Please do not concern yourself with how many words you write. This writing should represent fifteen to twenty minutes of good 6th grade thinking and writing. You know what fifteen to twenty minutes of your good thinking and writing look like!)

Similarities:
Agias kills himself by jumping off a cliff at the end. Theseus kills the minotoar. Ariadne helps Theseus and gives him a spool of thread to find his way through the labrynth. Theseus abandons Ariadne on an island. Theseus forgets to hoist the white sail at the end.
Differences:
Ariadne is older in the film than in the story. Media, Agias's wife, tries to poison Theseus and puts a curse on the kingdom of Athens. The minotoar is Ariadne's brother. Theseus finds out that King Agias is his dad by moving a heavy rock. Ariadne, in the story, is really ugly. In the film, Theseus abandons Ariadne on the island in the morning after they make love and Ariadne curses Theseus.
Compare and Contrast the movie to the story
ReplyDeleteThe differences in the story are that Theseus had to push down a stone where he could find out if he has a father. In the movie there was a narrator and in the story there wasn’t. Theseus didn’t have a mom in the story that told him about his father. King Minus had daughter and in the story he didn’t. Picked up his dad when he jumped off a cliff
The similarities are that the father of Theseus jumped off a cliff when he saw a sailing skip and died. The king has a beard. Put up the black sale. The monster in the basement. Theseus killed the beast in the basement. A girl went to visit the beast every day.
Comparing Theseus and the Minotaur
ReplyDeleteThe things that happen in both story and the film are. Theseus goes to Athens to kill the Minotaur. Theseus kills the Minotaur. The father jumps off the cliff and dies. Theseus forgets to raise the black sail. Theseus leaves Airdne on an island.
The things that happen in the story only are. Theseus asks his father why they send seven women and seven men to Crete. Airdne cries when Theseus goes into the labyrinth.
The things that happen only in the film are. He has a mum that tells him to find his father, King Ageus. The Minatour is Airdne’s brother. King Ageus has a wife who curses a spell on Theseus and Ageus.
Compare and Contrast Theseus and the Minotaur

The differences were that we didn’t see king Minos at all in the film but we did in the book. Also in the film his daughter was the Minotaur’s sister. There were the narrators, the dog and the man. When King Aegeus gave his people to the Minotaur they were dressed in white in the film. In the myth it doesn’t say. In the story Theseus didn’t have a mum but in the film he did. He also killed the Minotaur with his bare hands in the book but not in the film.
Similarities
The similarities in the story and in the film were that King Aegeus gave the Minotaur his people to eat. King Minos daughter gives Theseus a ball of yarn to find his way out of the labyrinth. When Theseus came back after killing the Minotaur he hoisted a black sail. Theseus dad, king Aegeus, jumped of a cliff and died in the water because he thought his son was dead.

ReplyDeleteThat Theseus left his father’s Kingdom to sacrifice himself to the Minotaur but with intention of killing the Minotaur. Theseus had promised his father that should he be successful in killing the Minotaur, upon his return he would put up the white sail of his boat if he was alive. He forgot to do so and his father saw the black sail and in sorrow he jumped off a cliff and plunged into the deep sea and was killed.
The differences are:
That Theseus had his mother by his side.That he had to push a bolder to find a clue of who his father is. Ariadne is very annoying and not pretty at all in the book.
Theseus and the Minotaur
ReplyDeleteThese are the similarities between the film version and the book version. The main characters are the same and they are Theseus, King Agias, Adriane, the Minotaur and King Minos. In both versions Theseus goes to Crete and kills the Minotaur. Then he returns to Athens. Also at the end Agias falls of the cliff and kills himself as he thinks that his son has died. Adriane, who is King Minos’s daughter helps Theseus by giving him something.
The differences are that in the film Theseus found out who his father was when he pushed a large stone and discovered a sword underneath. He then goes to Athens and meets his father the King.and he has another wife who is a witch. In the book Thesus lived with his father the King. Also in the film, after Thesus has killed the minotaur, he leaves the palace without Adriane but in the book he takes her with him. In the film Adriane gives Thesus a key when she meets him at the port but in the book she only speaks with him when he is in the maze.
Similarities:
ReplyDelete1. The chracters are the same except the talking dog and the storyteller from the movie.
2. Theseus's father died because Theseus came back with the black old sail.
3. The daughter of Minos - Ariadne fell in love with Theseus and asked him to marry her.
4. Ariadne gives Theseus a rope so he would know the way back to the maze.
5. Theseus kills the Minotaur.
6. The Minotaur was half bull and half man the one king Minos kept in the maze.
7. Theseus leaves Ariadne and doesn't marry her.
Differences:
1. In the movie there is a talking dog.
2. In the story it doesnt say much how Ariadne gave the key to Theseus. It only says that she only gave him the rope to lead him back out of the maze.
3. In the movie Theseus had to move away the big rock to take the sword and he finds out who his father was, but the story doesn't say anything about it.
4. In the story it didn't tell us about the wife of Theseus's father, the king of Athens, Aegeus.

Similarities:
There is the same story line.
There was a Minotaur in both.
King Ageus commited suicide at the end of the story.
Theseus killed the Minotaur.
Differences:
There are a couple of new characters in the movie.
In the story the beggining starts when king Minos of Crete who kept the minotaur but in the movie it starts with the narrarator reveiwing the story.

In the movie Arriane says that she was a sister of the minotaur. Arriane is much older in the movie.
