  1. 1. In the book and the film there were some similarities.
River Sticks is in between the underworld and the upper world.
Eurydice did not look back until they almost got to the top.
There was a ferry crossing from the underworld to the upper world.

Some differences between the written myth and the filmed version are:
There was no narrator in the book.
Zeus was called Hadye in the movie.
After Eurydice got out of the underworld he was beaten to death by villagers.

  2. Compare and Contrast
I am going to compare the film with story of Orpheus and Eurydice. We read the story then watched a film about the same thing.
The things that happen only in the story are. There isn’t a Satyr. There is a three headed dog. There is Pluto, the king of the underworld.
The things that happen only in the film are. Eurydice emerged from a tree when the Orpheus played music. They danced. There is a dog with a man who tells the story. There is Hades, the king of the underworld.
The things that happen in both story and film are. Orpheus plays music very well. Eurydice goes to the underworld. A snake killed Eurydice. The soul of Eurydice goes back to the underworld.
I preferred the story to the film. One reason I didn’t like the film is that it had bad music. Other than that it was alright.

  3. COMPARE AND CONTRAST

    SIMILARITIES

In the both stories snake bites Eurydice and she dies. River Styx is like a border between the Underworld and the world. Orpheus plays lyre very well. Orpheus didn’t look back until they reached the top.

    DIFFERENCES
In the movie there were a lot of other people. There wasn’t a narrator in the stories. There wasn’t a Satyr in the story. The kings of the Underworld were different.

  4. Compare and Contrast
In English class we watched a short movie. We read the same story, but there were some small differences so I am going to Compare and Contrast the story to the movie. First I will tell you what the differences are in story, then what the differences are in the movie and the last one is what the same in movie and story was.
In the story there was no narrator talking, there was no dog, and in the story the first sentence was Eurydice died in the movie it was a whole story before she died. Orpheus also just fond her and fell in love with her in the story. What I also didn’t see in the story is that the underground king called Pluto was eating. In the story it didn’t say that people were dancing. In the story the words weren’t the same as in the movie. As well in the story Orpheus was in a boat going back to the upper world and in a boat not walking up the stairs. Different description of people.
In the movie Orpheus was walking through the woods and saw a tree bleeding. Out of the tree came a woman. This was never told in the story. In the movie there were different people, when Orpheus and Eurydice met they were holding hands when they walked through the forest. In the movie there is a dog which speaks, at the end Orpheus got so angry that he started breaking his lyre. Everyday woman came closer and closer to him with a stick kitting the dirt, and at the end fell down into the dog and narrator’s home.
In both the story and movie Orpheus had the lyre and was playing it. In the story and movie Eurydice died by a snake bite, the names were the same. In the movie and story Orpheus brought Eurydice to the underworld and when they went back up to the upper world Orpheus couldn’t look back to Eurydice or she had to stay in the underworld and Orpheus could never see her again. The god of the underworld was also there in the story and movie.
I really liked to read and watch the story. I liked to write this as well because it was fun to read and to see the same titled movie but there were still so many differences. I think that the story also was adventurous.

  5. Eurydice and Orpheus Similarities and Differences to the movie and the story

    Similarities:
Well the whole story is based on the same thing, same names and same idea. For instance there is a snake that bites Eurydice in both movie and book. Eurydice dies in both. Orpheus plays the lyre and is very musical. Orpheus looks for Eurydice in the underworld. There is also the ferryman Persephone is the wife of the king of the underworld. The king of the Underworld agrees that if Orpheus looks back then Eurydice has to return to the underworld. But in both movie and story Orpheus looks back. Orpheus dies in both. Eurydice and Orpheus are married and love each other. There is also a river Styx in both.
    Differences:
In the story the king of the underworld is Pluto but in the movie his name is Hades. In the movie instead of the snake just biting Eurydice like in the story, a Satyr chases her and while she is running away, she gets bitten by the snake. In the story, when Eurydice dies, her soul gets sucked down into the underworld but in the movie, she has to drink special water. There is also a three headed dog in the story called Cerberus but in the movie the narrator mentions him but the movie does not show it. Orpheus is not handsome in the movie but in the story he is suppose to be handsome. Eurydice comes out of a tree in the movie but in the story, she is already married to Orpheus. Orpheus dies by the woman of the village killing him by digging his grave under him while he bangs the lyre with a rock but in the story he dies by all the villagers attacking him because he plays sad songs. In the movie there is a narrator and a talking dog. Also in the end of the book Orpheus and Eurydice get reunited with all of the gods. At the end of the movie the floor falls through and the narrator and the do find his lyre (Orpheus’s lyre) and then he appears in front of them like a host and says something about love. I didn’t really like the movie. I liked the book better. I don’t really know why I don’t like it. It was alright I guess.

  7. Similarities

    The things that are the same or similar in the story and the movie are;
The snake bites Eurydice and she dies. After she dies she is taken to the Underworld. Orpheus plays his lyre in both. When he comes to the Underworld to save his wife Orpheus have to talk to Pluto/Hades. Persephone has a part. Eurydice dies for the second time in the end and so does Orpheus (but for the first time).

    Differences

In the story it was a three headed dog called Cerberus. The ferryman had a bigger part in the story. Also Orpheus and Eurydice end up together and float away to a special place called Fields of Eternal Happiness in the end. In the movie there was a talking dog as one of the narrators. The people in the little village were dancing and singing in the movie. Eurydice is born from a tree. Pluto has a different name in the film. His name is Hades.

  8. 2 paragraphs about the similarities and differences between Orpheus and Eurydice the movie and the story.

    Similarities:

In the story and the movie, Eurydice gets bitten by the snake, Hadyes was in both story and movie, and Persephone was there. Orpheus followed Eurydice into the underworld in both, and there was the three headed guard dog also mentioned in both the story and the movie.

    Differences:
In the movie Orpheus finds Eurydice in a tree whereas in the beginning of the story they already knew each other. In the movie there was also a dog as the narrator. Towards the end of the movie where Orpheus was begging Pluto to give Eurydice back to the normal world, Persephone begged Pluto to let her go. In the story Pluto let her go, but Orpheus had to get out of the underworld not once looking back to see if she was there. (The last part was in the movie as well.)
At the end of the story Orpheus had looked back at Eurydice and lost her, then the people killed him because he could not play anymore sweet music. Then his soul begged to go down to the underworld to be with Eurydice, but the gods said that he shall live with Eurydice in the Fields of Eternal Happiness, for those loved by gods.

  9. Comparing Daedalus and Icarus
The things that happen in the story only are. They fly out of the windowsill. King Minos tells Daedalus to build a castle.
The things that Happen in the film only are. There is a man and a dog telling the story. There is a boy called Talos, he invents a saw. Daedalus throws Talos of the roof of the tower and Talos dies. There is a talking evil bird that casts a curse on Daedalus. Daedalus goes to Sicily and meets the king’s daughters who brighten his days. Daedalus learns the art to make models from the goddess Athena. Daedalus boils Minos in a bath.
The things that happen in both the story and film are. Daedalus makes wings for him and his son. Icarus flies to close to the sun and falls and dies. Daedalus and Icarus flee from Athens.
I liked the film more than the story, although the film made me think that Daedalus was a murderer.

  10. I am going to Compare and Contrast the film version and written story of Orpheus and Eurydice.

Some of similarities that I found were that the main characters were the same and that the places were the same like the forest and the Underworld and the River Styx. Orpheus and Eurydice met in the forest and they were married and were happy. Orpheus was a musician and played a lyre. Eurydice dies in both versions because she was bitten by a snake and Orpheus is very upset. He goes to the Underworld to get her spirit back and has to get there from the River Styx by boat. The rule that the king of the underworld says that Orpheus has to agree to is not to look back when Eurydice is following him out of the Underworld.

There were more differences between the 2 versions. Some of them are that the name of the Underworld King were not the same, the film one was Hades and the written was Pluto. Also Persephone tells the king to let Eurydice go back and in the written one the king decides himself. When Eurydice follows Orpheus in the book you can hear the swish of her robes but the film said he couldn’t hear her at all. Also in the forest when Eurydice is bitten by the snake, there is another person who is chasing her. When Orpheus first meets Eurydice she comes out of a tree when he is playing music but this does not happen in the written version. Last one is that at the end of the film the ground opens up when Orpheus is killed but the written version he goes to live with the gods and Eurydice is there with him.

I liked the film version best as there was more detail and hearing the music helped. A lot of the story was about Orpheus playing music.

The similarities between them are Orpheus and Euridice love each other, Euridice gets bitten by a snake, she gets sent to the underworld, Orpheus goes to get her back and then he meets Pluto the king of the underworld.
