The differences are in the movie and the story:
ReplyDeleteThe differences are that Daedalus has a nephew call Talos. He wants him to be like Icarus but Icarus is very clumsy. There is also this predator bird that tells Daedalus that he hates Talos and that he wants to kill him. He asked Talos if he thought that flying is possible and Talos said yes that it could be so then he swirls him around and because he is on the roof at that time, Daedalus purposely swung him off the roof and then Talos died. In the movie the story carries on after Icarus dies. In the movie, Daedalus kills King Minos in the bath by pouring boiling hot water into the bath, this was after Icarus dies. Daedalus gets found by Minos again before he kills him. They don’t live in a soaring tower in the labyrinth Minos told him to build.
Similarities:
It’s the same story, names and idea. There is mostly the same characters. They try to escape from Crete. Daedalus makes wings. Daedalus makes Minos’s labyrinth. There is a Minotaur. Icarus dies. King Minos is mean and ugly. Icarus is a young boy. Daedalus is an inventor.
Daedalus and Icarus
ReplyDeleteSimilarities
The things that are the same or similar in the movie and the story are;
In both the myths Daedalus was an inventor. Daedalus builds a labyrinth for the king called Minos. Daedalus says to his son Icarus not to fly to close to the sun. Icarus flies to close to the sun and dies anyway.
Differences
The story was much shorter than the movie but the story contains more details. In the story Daedalus and Icarus gets locked up in one of the towers in the king’s palace. It also takes longer time for Daedalus to build the wings for him and his son to escape. They jump out of the window when they are escaping in the story. In the movie, it doesn’t show why they want to escape. Icarus is also clumsy and the king dies in the end. The story ends with Icarus dying.

The similarities between the movie and the story of Daedalus and Icarus are:
ReplyDeleteDaedalus was a great inventor and worked for crafty kings. He had a son called Icarus. Daedalus made two sets of wings for him and his son Icarus so that they could fly when they would flee from Crete. During their flight Icarus flew too close to the sun and the wax which they used to hold the feathers of their wings together melted and Icarus fell into the sea and was killed.
The differences between the movie and the story are:
In the book Icarus and Daedalus jumped out of their window to escape and in the movie they jumped off a small cliff. In the movie King Minos was killed in his bath tub as Daedalus poured boiling water into it.
The Similarities and differences between Daedalus and Icarus The movie and story.
ReplyDeleteSimilarities:
They both have Daedalus and Icarus as characters
Daedalus has to build a labyrinth for king Minos
Daedalus and Icarus were stuck in a tower
Daedalus collected feathers from birds
Icarus was smart
Icarus died by falling because he didn’t listen to his father.
Differences:
Movie:
There was an extra character or two mentioned in the movie
There was a dog as part of the narrating. (in the story he wasn’t mentioned)
Daedalus’s nephew was in the movie and then died by falling over a rooftop.(again not mentioned)
Daedalus’ nephew got the idea to flee from Crete by using wings with feathers from birds.(movie)
Icarus was very clumsy (movie) not smart like it said in the story.
There went to another king after Icarus died.

Daedalus and Icarus.
ReplyDeleteSimilarities:
In both the myths Daedalus was an inventorand he built a labyrinth for King Minos. Daedalus tells his son Icarus not to fly to close to the sun, but he doesn’t listen, so he flies too close to the sun and dies.
Differences:
In the movie there were many new characters, like king Cocalus with his two daughters and Talos. In the movie king Minos looked for a person who could pass a thread through a seashell, but in the movie nothing was said about it. In the movie Talos invents a saw, but nothing is said about that in the book. In the movie a man and a dog are telling the story, but in book, the author is telling the story.

In English we watched a movie and read the same story and I will tell you the differences and the things that happened in the story and movie.
ReplyDeleteThe differences it the movie is:
• There was another boy which died by falling from the roof.
• Deadalus made the wings while Icarus was awake and not in the tower.
• They flew in the sky, from a cliff not a windowsill
• Narrator talking in the story
• The king died in a bath by hot water Deadalus threw in
• Deadalus found two other small girls
• Deadalus went down to shore to bury his son
The similarities
• They all had the same names
• Icarus died by falling from the sky
• They had to build a palace for the king
• Deadalus told Icarus to not fly to close to the son or the wax will melt
• The king was in both the story and movie
Daedalus and Icarus story.
ReplyDeleteThese are the similarities between the film version and the book version. The main characters are the same, Daedalus, Icarus and King Minos. Also Daedalus is a famous inventor and King Minos asks him to build a maze in the palace which is in Crete. Daedalus and Icarus need to escape from Crete as they feel like prisoners. Daedalus makes wings using bird feathers and glues them together with wax. He tells his son not to fly too close to the sun. Icarus does it and the wax melts and he falls into the sea and dies.
There are a lot of differences between the book and film version. The first one is that there is another person called Talos who is Daedalus’s nephew. He falls off the roof and dies and its Daedalus’s fault. In the film, Icarus is a clumsy boy and keeps breaking things. Daedalus’s knows about the minotaur and why he is making a maze. He has a secret door and escapes from the palace. Daedalus makes a boy with wings statue and other toys that move. Also the film is a longer story, it is in Athens, Crete and Sicily. It also tells us what happened to Daedalus after his son dies. Also in the film King Minos dies at the end of the story.

My story continues when Nancy Drew, a young amateur detective, is called to help her father, a well-known lawyer, on a case.
The case is about a bank that has been robbed in the Lake Monroe area.
There are for suspects that are strangers to Nancy and she has to visit them. She went to see Mrs. Farley, a pleasant elderly woman, who is one of the suspects.
Thats what I read today.
Comparing Daedalus and Icarus
ReplyDeleteThe things that happen in the story only are. They fly out of the windowsill. King Minos tells Daedalus to build a castle.
The things that Happen in the film only are. There is a man and a dog telling the story. There is a boy called Talos, he invents a saw. Daedalus throws Talos of the roof of the tower and Talos dies. There is a talking evil bird that casts a curse on Daedalus. Daedalus goes to Sicily and meets the king’s daughters who brighten his days. Daedalus learns the art to make models from the goddess Athena. Daedalus boils Minos in a bath.
The things that happen in both the story and film are. Daedalus makes wings for him and his son. Icarus flies to close to the sun and falls and dies. Daedalus and Icarus flee from Athens.
I liked the film more than the story, although the film made me think that Daedalus was a murderer.
Reading Log: Tom’s Sausage Lion
ReplyDeleteThis book is written by Michael Morpurgo. Michael Morpurgo won an award called ‘The Whitbread Award’. This book is quite a small book. It has a nice cover by Jason Cockroft. It was first published in 1986 by Corgi Yearling.
Tom saw a lion walking through the woods with a string of sausages in his mouth. He shouted for his mum but she didn’t believe him. He saw it two days later as well. But still no one would believe him.
So one day he was going on a bus when he saw a girl talking about the lion. He asked her if it had a string of sausages in his mouth. She said he had.
After a lot of teasing about the lion at school they walked to the police station and told the officer about the lion. He just laughed and told them to stop wasting his time. They came up with an idea. They would get meat every day and hide next to the meat and then take a photo of the lion. Then they could prove that they have seen it.
But the plan goes a little wrong and they have to change their plan a bit.
Find out what happens next week!

ReplyDeleteLong Way Home Part 1
This story is by my favourite author; Michael Morpurgo. It has a cool cover illustration by Oliver Burston. The cover has a picture of a flood with lightning near a farm. It was first published in Great Britain in 1975 by Egmont press.
The story starts when George, an orphan child, driving to his tenth new home. He was bored to death by driving to his new house. He was thinking how his new home was going to be like. Probably boring like the other homes he had been to.
When they got to the farm there was a girl with dark brown hair sitting near the driveway. She came and looked in the car. She stared at George for a long time. So he stared back till she opened the door and brought him inside. There was Mrs. Dyer and Mr. Dyer. They told him the girl’s name was Storme and they had a son called Tom who was in the fields moving the cows.
George and Storme went to the fields to look for Tom. They soon found him with the calves there was one calf called Jemima that kept licking him. Tom finally pushed her into the field full of the calves.
Tom did not like George one bit. It was good his silly little sister was always occupying him with questions.
George was starting to like the farm and thought it was the best home he had ever been to. But Storme was a bit pestering with her questions he thought.
Then when Mr. Dyer asked him “I’ll pay you if you help on the farm.” That made him feel that he was different to Tom and Storme. Now he was going to leave this place tonight like he always did. But that night there was a terrible storm.
Suddenly Tom came rushing into his room and shouted “There is a flood! The river has overflowed! There is calves drowning out there and I can’t get them to safety by myself. I need your help.”
“Where are your parents?” George asked.
“They have gone to my grandparent’s house and they won’t be back for an hour!”
Soon they were racing out into the lashing of the rain and the rumbling of the thunder. They went to the bottom field where the calves were. “There should be twelve cows.” Shouted Tom against the wind.
They managed to gather ten, but there was still two missing. So Tom went one way looking for the littlest calf and George went the other way looking for Jemima. George soon heard the mooing of Jemima and ran in the direction of the mooing. He soon discovered that the water was up to his waist. He waded through the water easily until his foot caught something and he stumbled and started to go under the water. He soon regained his balance and his head was out of the water. After he got his courage back he could see Jemima clearly. He led her to the top of the field where the other calves were. Tom was there too with the other calf.
Then they heard the sound of an engine and Tom recognised it as his parent’s car. When they were safely inside, Tom thought differently about George. Now he seemed like his brother.
George was never going to escape now. He had completely forgotten about the money incident.
Then one day they went out on the moor, all three of them. Tom, George and Storme.
Long Way Home Part 2
ReplyDeleteThen it suddenly got very misty and Storme and George lost Tom. They found they’re way to the stone circle and found shelter under a huge stone. They sat there for a day and night until Tom and his parents found them shivering. They also saw that Storme had sprained her ankle and had to carry her. Tom’s mum insisted on carrying Storme. When they reached the house Tom’s mum had severely injured her spine.
The called an ambulance and it took Mrs. Dyer to the hospital. After that the farm was silent and Mr. Dyer was going to send George back to the orphanage. George was horrified!
But there was no stopping Mr. Dyer. George was sent back on Sunday. When he got tot the orphanage he went straight to his room and made a calendar out of his notebook. Three days later, he had thought of a plan. He was going to escape back to the farm.
He set of the next day. He took lifts often, but his feet still ached from walking. When he reached Exeter, the town Tom and Storme lived in, he was exhausted. But as the farm came into view he found new strength in himself. He went up the lane and drank from the stream. While he was drinking he saw Tom’s reflection.
“There you are George. I thought you would be here at lunchtime with the amount of telephone calls we had about you missing.”
“Hi Tom, where is Storme?”
“She’s waiting for you with my parents. Come on, my parents are really worried about you.”
So they walked up the hill and they saw Storme racing towards them. Hair flying all over the place.
“Her ankle looks much better!” said George.
“I know,” said Tom. “Everything is better,”
“Yes,” George said.

Comparing and Contrasting
ReplyDeleteI am going to compare and contrast Deadleus and Icarus.
1- Comparing
There are a few similarities.
In both the story and film there are Deadleus, Icarus and also Minus.
Deadleus and Icarus fly, Icarus flies too high to the sun and he falls into the sea and dies.
Deadleus designs wings for them both (Deadleus and Icarus) out of birds’ feathers.
2- Contrasting
There was a different character named Tadus in the film.
Deadleus killed King Minos when he was in the bath.
They were born in Crete in the story and in the film they were born in Athens.
In the film they were chased up to their room by the Minotaur Deadleus created, in the story Deadleus and Icarus walked up to the their room peacefully.
