Here is the place to leave the final draft of your introduction to a classmate. I'm sorry it has taken me so long to post this. I also have not yet given specific written feedback on earlier drafts to everyone, but will do this by this evening. I am confident, though, that you all understand the assignment well and will all be able to produce a strong final draft. Remember to meet the word minimum (250 words) and to have at least four paragraphs including strong "opening" and "closing" paragraphs.
Please try to have this EITHER printed OR submitted to the blog by Monday and BOTH printed and submitted by Tuesday. (If you have big, big computer problems, please just write it out by hand for now.)
I also noticed on Friday that the door to our room was being repaired and that a few incomplete posters were left behind. If you couldn't retrieve your poster from the room, please don't worry. We'll make what accommodations we have to and have fun with our oral presentations.

Meet Max by James
ReplyDeleteToday, in English we were told to interview a classmate and we had to interview our partner next to us and I interviewed Max.
Max is a new student at Verdala so it was good to find out about him. Today I will tell you some interesting facts about him like his favourites and family.
His name is Max and he is turning 12 on Christmas Day, 25th December. He has just moved to Malta a few weeks ago and is living in the Hilton until he finds a house but he thinks they will find one soon.
His favourite foods are pizza and pasta. He enjoys sports very much and his favourite is football. He loves to watch movies especially The Simpson’s and his favourite car is a Lamborghini which is red. I found out some more of his favourites like place are London, colour is red, TV programme is Drake & Josh and electronics is his Xbox 360.
He has a twin sister, Katie and an older brother called Luke. They both go to Verdala too. His dad is Andy (he works with my dad at HSBC) and his mum is Shoola and they all have lived in England together as a family.
Max has blue eyes, brown hair and he has a happy and sporty personality.
I had great fun interviewing Max because we had lots of things in common like sports and TV programmes. Hopefully you will get to know him more so maybe you should become friends with him. Maybe in the future you will get to interview him like me.
Final draft – Meet Michael
ReplyDeleteOne of my new classmates is Michael. I have done an interview with him about himself. I talked to Michael for a long time in class. I found out what his favourite things are, his hobbies, where he comes from and more. This is what I found out. Meet Michael.
Michael is 11 years old and comes from Russia. He was born in Moscow, the capital of Russia, in January 1998. He just moved to Malta with his family and started Verdala International School this September. Michael is happy about staying here in Malta.
He has got quite short, dark brown hair and his eye colour is also brown. He has got a brother called Dima and he is 4 years old. Michael likes to play with Dima after school. He has got two turtles at home but his favourite animal is lion. His favourite colour is orange and he loves to eat sandwiches.
Michael loves to swim. He has got a wonderful pool at home and is in the water all the time. When he is not in the water he likes to read books. Michael reads thin and thick books. He reads both in Russian and in English. His favourite author is J.K. Rowling and his favourite book is by her and is of course Harry Potter.
He also likes to play football and basketball. In Russia he played basketball. He is really good at it.
When Michael grows up he wants to become a teacher here in Malta.
It was fun and interesting to interview Michael because he is new in the class. I did not know a lot of things about him before but now I feel I know him better. I think he will become a great teacher if he wants to.

Meet Isabella. Isabella has long, brown hair and green eyes. She is very short, around 1.5 meters tall. She is 11 years old. She is Spanish, French and also American. She was born in Florida in 1998 and lived there four and a half years. Here you can find out more about Isabella.
Isabella’s happiest memory was when she graduated from Elementary last June. Her saddest memory was when her great grandmother died. Her best birthday was when she turned 6. She had a princess party and she dressed herself in a princess costume.
Isabella has 4 family members which include her, her mom, dad and older brother. Her brother’s name is Seb, her father’s name is Alain and her mother’s name is Elena. Her mum is a PSHE teacher at Isabella’s school. Verdala International School in Malta. She also has two dogs : Lucas and Lola, two turtles : Forrest and Gumpy, and two goldfish : Twix and M&M.
Now I will tell you Isabella’s favorites. Her favorite type of weather is rainy day. She loves winter, and her favorite number is 3. Isabella’s favorite food is Asian, especially noodles, and her favorite drink is coke. Isabella’s favorite color is turquoise. She likes Tennis and Swimming. Her favorite type of music is “hip-hop”.
Her favorite book is called “Nancy Drew” series and her favorite movie is Love Guru. Her favorite singer is Michael Jackson, and her favorite song is “Disturbia” by Rihanna. Her favorite animal is the dolphin. If she could be any tree, bush or flower, she would be a cherry tree, because she likes cherries. If she could speak any three languages except from English, she would like to speak Spanish, Chinese, and Aztec.
I enjoyed interviewing Isabella, and I also learned a lot of new things about her, which I didn’t know before. Isabella is very kind and she could really help someone when they’re in a bad situation. I hope you enjoyed reading my writing and thankyou for reading my Introduction.

INTRODUCTION ABOUT A CLASSMATE
ReplyDeleteThe introduction will be about Charlotte. She’s from England. And she’s eleven years old. She will be twelve on the twentieth of May. An interview wasn’t very long and I got a very good time interviewing her. And it was really interesting. I got a lot of new information about her.
She has short fair hair and her eyes are blue. She’s tall and active. She also takes everything with a smile. Charlotte is kind, helpful and artistic. It’s nice that she’s easy-going and friendly. She doesn’t normally like to let her bad moods and anger inside her come out and affect other people.
Charlotte is in the sixth grade at the moment. She has been learning in “Verdala” school for three years and she enjoys it a lot. Her favourite subjects are: English, PE and Computer.
I understood that she considers herself a person of wide interests. She has a lot of hobbies and interests. They are: computer, sports and reading. She tries to keep fit and healthy. She’s interested in winter and summer games. But her favourite ones are: running, tennis, swimming, snowboarding and skiing. She prefers to read fiction books. Her favourite books are those which are written by Jacqueline Wilson. Her favourite film is “Yes-man”.
Her family consists of four persons. They are: a father, a mother, an elder sister and she. She said me that she is very happy with her family. Her father’s occupation is “Betting director”. They have been living in Malta for three years. I think Charlotte is happy in this peaceful island because the people are very helpful and friendly. And the climate is warm and healthy.
I learnt a lot about her and I hope she liked my questions too. I think in the future she will be a doctor and I hope a success will follow her.

ReplyDeleteThis is a introduction to my classmate Amber. I’ve known Amber since September 2008 when I started at Verdala International School. She has been at Verdala since Grade 3. We are now in Grade 6 together.
Amber has dark hair and brown eyes. She was born in Malta in 1997 but moved to Canada, with her family, when she was young. Then she moved back to Malta where she has been ever since.
She has one brother called Tyler and a stepbrother and a stepsister. Her mum is called Michelle and is 47 years old. She is Maltese. Her dad is called Jonathan and is 52. He was born in Canada. She has more than twenty cousins.
Amber’s hobbies are listening to music and talking with her friends. Her favorite music group is The Black Eyed Peas; she likes their song “Boom Boom Pow” the best. Her least favorite music group is AC/DC. The book she likes best is “The English Roses” by Madonna. Her favorite film is “Titanic”. She likes clothes by the fashion label VANS.
Her scariest nightmare was when she was stuck in a cave with her mum about to be eaten by crocodiles. When she got most scared was when she was going to the bathroom in the night and thought the curtain was a ghost. One time she found herself sleepwalking along a corridor at home! She scared her brother the most when he was listening to music and she surprised him.
I enjoyed finding out more about Amber over the two days I interviewed her at Verdala during September 2009.

ReplyDeleteI interviewed Luke B to find out about him. He was born in Blackheath which is in London in England on the 26 March 1998 (so he is 11 years old). Luke has lived in Malta for 9 years. During school term he lives in Sliema and at the weekend he goes to his home in Gozo. He has 2 brothers one called Ben and the other called Asher and his parents’s names are Suzie and David.
Luke's favourite hobbies are playing ripstick and tennis. He also has an XBOX 360 and his favourite game at the moment is Call of Duty 5. Luke likes listening to music especially Led Zeplin and he likes watching films. One of the films which he has enjoyed the most is King Kong. When he has time to watch television he particularly likes Sponge Bob which is a funny programme.
Luke's favourite animal is a dog all breeds probably. His family have pets in the house. They have a dog and a cat, but I don't know if he had them at the same time. They also have a pigeon and a rabbit. I've never known anyone to have a pigeon as a pet before.
Pasta is his favourite meal and he is not allowed to eat diary products as I think he has an allergy. He likes the colour purple which is a calming and bright colour - a bit like Luke. The car that Luke likes is a Land Rover which is a large car.
If Luke could have any job in the future, he said that he would love to be an artist, which is something that Luke is very good at. I think this would suit him a lot.
My introduction to Albert

This is my Introduction to Albert and I will be telling you about his appearance, his family, memories, hobbies and his favourite things.
Albert is 11 years old. He was born on 1st of May 1998 in Sweden and he goes to Verdala. He has been to many countries such as India and Antigua. He has lived in Sweden for a total of 6 years, living in different places in between. He has also lived in Canada and Antigua.
Albert has blonde hair, bluey green eyes and tanned skin. He is a funny joker and loves to entertain people.
Albert has loads of hobbies. He enjoys them all and is a very active person. Here are his hobbies: Swimming, table tennis, football and basketball. The one he enjoys the most is football. He used to be in the football club when we were in grade 5. All I can say is that he is a very active person.
Albert lives with his family of 4 which is his mum, Martina, His dad, Mattias, and his little sister Sigrid. His sister is 10 years old and she loves sports. His mum and dad are both Swedish and both got married in Sweden. They have travelled a lot to different places in the world.
Albert’s favourite things are his Nintendo DS game Fifa 2009, his favourite food is pizza, his favourite TV show is friends and his favourite book is Diary of a Wimpy Kid. His favourite subject is recess and lunch (I think it’s mine to!).
The memories I've had with Albert is when he came to school for spirit week as Albertina! When we were in Grade 5, Albert had quite long hair and looked like a girl when he put the skirt and strappy top on. That is probably the funniest memory I can remember with Albert. There is also another one with which I happened when I was off school sick, he kicked the ball in the basket ball net while we were playing kick ball!
Albert came to Verdala a year ago and made friends quickly. He is a kind person and is a trustful friend. As I have said in the second paragraph, he is a funny joker and likes to make people laugh. But I have learnt a lot about Albert and I hope you have to through what I have written. Thank you for reading it!

ReplyDeleteI like the book alot but at the start i picked another book and then swaped with Amber. The book cover dosnt look like sometging you would normally pick up, though inside it takes a while to get into it but it is quite good.
The part im up to at the moment is that this girl called Catherine (she tells the story) who is about 12 years old and has this wierd little brother who is a bit crazy. thats all i have read so far. its only 10 pages and i like it.

ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading "The Secret Of Shadow Ranch" which is a Nancy Drew book by Carolyn Keene.
I like these books because they are mystery and have a lot of suspense. I love it, even though it is an old book. It was published in the late 1930's.
My book now is about Nancy Drew, an amateur detective. Along with her best friends, Bess and George (who is a girl), they go to visit and solve a mystery at Shadow Ranch, Arizona. But hidden in the ranch there is treasure that was hidden by Dirk Valentine, an outlaw a long time ago. Nancy and her friends team up and try to find the treasure and return it to the owners of the ranch before the bad people get the treasure and keep it for themselves.
I find it really interesting so far. After all, I did read about 7-8 Nancy Drew books during the summer.
I think that two of the bad people are Dave and Shorty Steele, two men who work at the ranch.
I predict that Nancy and her friends will find the treasure but somehow get caught and held hostage! But I'm sure they'll get out of it!

I have started reading 'The Tempest' by William Shakespeare. People call it a classic. I started reading it because I liked the cover and I haven't read it before.
ReplyDeleteIt starts with Prospero, a wise old duke, telling his daughter a story from the past about when they used to live in a palace.
They are banished from Milan where they lived. Then they get sent on a boat to drift at sea and die.
But instead of dying they find an island with sandy beaches and palm trees. Luckily the island has lots of food to eat. They find a cave to live in.
One day they find a spirit trapped in a twisted pine tree. It’s name is Ariel, it can do anything you want. Prospero sets it free by using his magic stick given to him by his enemy. Because Prospero set Ariel free, Ariel will be Prospero’s servant.
Prospero has a magic mirror as well. In his magic mirror he could see a ship with his enemies in. He orders Ariel to make it wavy so the ship hits the rocks and his enemies are shipwrecked on the island. He also orders for none of the enemies to die.
That is where I got to in the book. I think that Caliban, another servant that Prospero finds on the island, will turn bad and cause trouble.
I’m really excited about what is going to happen!

ReplyDeleteWhen we had double English, we went to the library on the second lesson. There I took a book which is called “The Silver Sword” by Ian Serraillier I have already read 6 chapters.
The main character is Joseph Balicky. He was a headmaster of a primary school. He “was” because German soldiers took him to the prison. He was there for some years. Conditions were very bad because there weren’t enough food for everyone and in winter it was very cold in the prison. One day he escaped by killing the prison guard. Then he went to his native town. There he saw that everything was ruined. Fortunately he met his friend there. His friend gave him food and a place to sleep. He understood that his children must be alive and his wife should be in Switzerland with her parents. So he left a note to his children where it was written that he went to Switzerland to find his wife. This note he gave to the boy, who was living in the ruins and the boy promised to give it to Joseph’s children children if he see them.
I liked this book a lot and I advise you to read it.

ReplyDeleteLast double English lesson we went to the library, and we had to pick a book and then write about what you've read so far.
I picked a book called : Saffy's Angel
Saffy's angel is about the Casson family.The Casson family is a famnily of six.
Eve the mom, Bill the father, Caddy the eldest daughter, Indigo the only boy, Rose and Saffron the youngest ones.
Bill and Eve are both great artists.Her mom named all the children arter colors.
They have a color chart hanging on the fridge and Saffron (Saffy) tries to find her name/color on the chart and the nshe realizes that its not there. That same night her mom tells Saffy that her name /color isnt there because she is special but really Eve just didnt choose her name but her sister did.
I didnt really get to have a chance to read more of the book yet so this is where it ends for now...
I hope to read more of the book soon.

ReplyDeleteAt the start of the story a girl called Sophie is in bed but she can’t fall asleep. I remember when I was younger and I couldn’t go to sleep. The moonbeam is shining into her room through a gap in her curtains. The moonbeam was so bright that she couldn’t sleep because of it. Everything around her is quiet and very still and she thinks this is the witching hour that someone told her about. This is when everyone is asleep and dark things come out from their hiding places. Sophie gets out of her bed and looks out of the window. She knows she isn’t allowed to do this but she does.
First of all she sees nothing outside in the street and then suddenly she sees something moving. She sees a tall black figure moving down the street and she is scared. She keeps watching the black thing and thinks it looks like a giant. That’s when I thought it started to get exciting.
