In class today, please think of something that you like to eat that you could write a recipe for. (Maybe someone at home could help you.) By the end of class, please submit the name of your recipe, and the ingredients and materials you think will need to make it. (You may need to change some or all of this later. This is not a problem. Consider this the first of several drafts.)
When we begin writing, your recipe should have the following parts.
- A title (This will be the name of the dish.)
- An introductory paragraph – This will tell your readers about why you chose this dish, when you have eaten it, what it tastes like, what it looks like, what it smells like, etc.
- A list of at least four ingredients.
- Directions – This will include at least four ordered steps written in full sentences using imperative verbs.
- An original labeled illustration in color of your ingredients.
- An original labeled illustration in color of your final dish.
When we have all the parts, we will make posters for presentation to the class. As with previous projects, your work will be assessed with reference to language, content, structure and style.
Here’s an example of what your recipe might look like.

Super Chunky Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich
Nothing is more delicious at lunchtime than a nice sticky, crunchy, peanutty peanut butter and banana sandwich. Whenever I play football on the weekends this is what my mom makes for me. One of my favorite things about this dish is that, since it has two halves and isn’t served hot, I don’t have to eat it all at once. I eat one half at “half time” and the second when the game is over!
Ingredients
2 slices of white bread
4 tablespoons of chunky peanut butter
1 large ripe banana
2 glasses of your beverage of choice
Materials
1 small kitchen knife
1 toaster
1 butter knife
1 bread knife
1 plate
Directions
- Peel the banana.
- Using the small kitchen knife, slice the banana into about ten circular slices about 4 cm. thick.
- Using the toaster, toast the two slices of white bread.
- Using the butter knife, spread 4 tablespoons of chunky peanut butter on one side of one piece of toast.
- Place as many banana slices as possible without stacking on top of the spread peanut butter.
- Eat leftover banana pieces.
- Put second piece of toast on top of banana slices.
- Push down gently on sandwich until peanut butter begins to squeeze from its sides.
- Cut the sandwich diagonally into two equal triangular halves.
- Serve with two glasses of your beverage of choice. (Peanut butter sticks inside your mouth!)

Exotic Swirl smoothie (And yes that's its real name):
ReplyDeleteCeline, Johanna (a girl who used to go to Verdala), and I created this fruit smoothie from scratch. And of course, it was made with that name! We created it in 3rd grade. When you're out in a hot summer day, or at any season or time, you can make this luxury drink. It was always a secret recipe, but we are willing to share it!
Ingredients:
*Just to say, this is really difficult to make!
1. 2-3 Passion fruits- seeds
2. 1 carton of Passion fruit juice
3. 2 Blood oranges
4. 3 Oranges
5. ¼ of a banana
6. Still water
7. Lemon juice (fresh squeezed)
8. 1 mango
9. ¼ of a pineapple
10. “Happy Day” multivitamin fruit juice
Materials:
1. Sift
2. Large knife
3. Kitchen knife
4. 1-2 LARGE beakers to hold the smoothie
5. A few glasses to drink from
Method:
1.Cut all the fruits, some with kitchen knife, and some with large knife (depends)
2.Put all fruits into a blender
3.Pour 200ml of passion fruit juice, 100ml of multivitamin juice, 70 ml of still water, and 80 ml of lemon juice into the blender with the fruits (make sure you put the fruits in first because it will be splashy!)
4.Blend for 2-3 minutes and sift out the passion fruit seeds or spoon them out
5.Then pour the smoothie into 1-2 large beakers and put into fridge for 2-3 minutes so it’s cold and fresh.
6.Serve immediately and ENJOY!
7.Voila!

ReplyDeleteThe Herring “In A Coat”
ReplyDeleteMy favourite dish is the Herring “In A Coat”. I know that the name of this meal is funny but it’s really tasty! Especially I like herring in this meal and I usually put a lot of herring in this dish. And I also like to put a lot of mayonnaise on and in it.
Ingredients:
1. Fillet of herring
2. Carrot
3. Eggs
4. Onion
5. Beetroot
6. Mayonnaise
7. Salt and ground pepper
8. Potatoes
Materials:
1. A kitchen knife
2. A kitchen board
3. Cooker
4. Fridge
5. Grater
6. Saucepan
Directions:
At first you boil all vegetables (which I have mentioned in the list of ingredients), then you cut potatoes, herring and onions in small pieces and grate carrots, beetroots and eggs on the grater.
When you finish everything you can start making the first layer. It consists of herring. The second layer is onion and then salted potato. On the top of it you put carrots, eggs and beetroots. But don’t forget to put a lot of mayonnaise to make it more delicious! And then you serve it cold.
I hope that you’ll like it a lot! Good appetite!

ReplyDeleteSwedish chocolate balls
I would like to share a recipe with you that is very popular in Sweden. We call them “chokladbollar” in Swedish. The good thing about this recipe is that you don’t need an oven for making them. A lot of kids make them in Sweden alone, without parents around.
For my birthday I got this giant ball of chocolate for breakfast and I almost threw up because it was too big, but a normal sized ball is delicious.
Ingredients:
100 grams of butter
0.5 cups of sugar
3 tablespoons of cocoa
2 cups of oats
2 tablespoons of coffee or water
Nib sugar
Materials:
1 mixing bowl
1 large mixing spoon
1 tablespoon
1 measuring cup
1 knife
2 plates
Direction:
1. Make sure you have all the ingredients and material.
2. Wash your hands.
3. Use a knife to cut 100 grams of butter. (It is good if you take out the butter before you start so it is a bit soft.)
4. Mix butter and sugar in the mixing bowl. Use the large mixing spoon.
5. Pour in cocoa oats and coffee or water into the bowl.
6. Mix everything together with the mixing spoon. (I like to mix with my hands. It is easier and more fun.)
7. Bring out two plates. In one of the plates you pour the nib sugar.
8. Now start to roll the mix into 2 cm round balls and roll them in the nib sugar. It should be about 20 balls.
9. When you are finished rolling the balls in the nib sugar put them on the other plate.
10. Put the chocolate balls in the refrigerator for about one hour.
11. Enjoy them on your own or with friends.
