ReplyDeleteLast double English lesson we went to the library, and we had to pick a book and then write about what you've read so far.
I picked a book called : Saffy's Angel
Saffy's angel is about the Casson family. The Casson family is a famnily of six.
Eve the mom, Bill the father, Caddy the eldest daughter, Indigo the only boy, Rose and Saffron the youngest ones.
Bill and Eve are both great artists. Her mom named all the children arter colors.
They have a color chart hanging on the fridge and Saffron (Saffy) tries to find her name/color on the chart and the nshe realizes that its not there. That same night her mom tells Saffy that her name /color isnt there because she is special but really Eve just didnt choose her name but her sister did.
I didnt really get to have a chance to read more of the book yet so this is where it ends for now...
I hope to read more of the book soon.

ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading "The Secret Of Shadow Ranch" which is a Nancy Drew book by Carolyn Keene.
I like these books because they are mystery and have a lot of suspense. I love it, even though it is an old book. It was published in the late 1930's.
My book now is about Nancy Drew, an amateur detective. Along with her best friends, Bess and George (who is a girl), they go to visit and solve a mystery at Shadow Ranch, Arizona. But hidden in the ranch there is treasure that was hidden by Dirk Valentine, an outlaw a long time ago. Nancy and her friends team up and try to find the treasure and return it to the owners of the ranch before the bad people get the treasure and keep it for themselves.
I find it really interesting so far. After all, I did read about 7-8 Nancy Drew books during the summer.
I think that two of the bad people are Dave and Shorty Steele, two men who work at the ranch.
I predict that Nancy and her friends will find the treasure but somehow get caught and held hostage! But I'm sure they'll get out of it!

English Writing by James Robertson
ReplyDeleteToday in English we went to the library to pick out a book of our choice and I picked The Folk of the Faraway Tree or in short (The Faraway Tree) by Enid Blyton.
The characters in the first chapter are Joe, Beth, Frannie, Connie and Moonface.
The story goes like this: the kids Joe, Beth & Frannie have a visitor to their house for the summer, Connie. Connie is very short and chubby, she is also very greedy but the other kids will not take that. Not surprisingly, Moonface (a character who lives in the Faraway Tree) slides down to give the children a tiny note on blue paper asking if they would like to come to dinner with him, Saucepan Man and Silky the Fairy. Connie didn’t know what to do because she didn’t believe in the Faraway Tree but in the end Joe forced her to say yes so she could see the Faraway Tree and meet all the characters.
I believe that Connie will go up the Faraway Tree and she will meet all the characters but then she will get lost in another land. I’m predicting this because I have read the first Faraway Tree book.
I picked this book because I read the first one and enjoyed that. I was pleased that it was in the library because I could read the second one and find out what happens. I’m really enjoying the book and hope that the story carries on like my prediction.

ReplyDeleteI started to read this book called Kid Swap. The authors name is called Michael Lawrence.
I don’t know so much about it yet but this is what I found out.
The main character in this book is called Jiggy McCue. He has got a mum and a dad. Jiggy’s family is not rich.
His mum a dad tells Jiggy that he is going to change places with another boy. This he does not like, until he finds out that the family he is going to stay with is rich and he changes his mind. A TV-show is going to film the swap and when they are done filming Jiggy is going to get money for it and be on TV.
It seems like the book will be fun because the language is funny written. For example, the director’s name of the show is DD and Jiggy thinks it must be short for Donald Duck.'

Artemis Fowl
ReplyDeleteCharacters:
Artemis Fowl
Butler
Jon Spire
Waitress
The story starts like this....
Artemis and Butler walk in to a restaurant and sis down!
Then a waitress comes to the table and says what would you like to eat.
He says "I would like a medley of shark and swordfish pan seared, on a bed of vegetables and new potatoes".
Waitress says:
And a drink?
Artemis Fowl says:
"Spring water" "Irish","If you have it and no ice," "please","as your ice is no doubt made from tap water," "which rather defeats the purpose of spring water".
Waitress leaves to table six then to the kitchen in disgust.
Butler says:
"pardon"
"That poor girl was almost in tears"! "It wouldn't hurt you to be nice occasionally"
John Spiro enters room and says "Hey little Artemis Fowl".
"How the hell are you"?...
Artemis Fowl says:
"I'am well"." Glad you came"
That is all i have read so far.
THE SILVER SWORD
ReplyDeleteWhen we had double English, we went to the library on the second lesson. There I took a book which is called “The Silver Sword” by Ian Serraillier I have already read 6 chapters.
The main character is Joseph Balicky. He was a headmaster of a primary school. He “was” because German soldiers took him to the prison. He was there for some years. Conditions were very bad because there weren’t enough food for everyone and in winter it was very cold in the prison. One day he escaped by killing the prison guard. Then he went to his native town. There he saw that everything was ruined. Fortunately he met his friend there. His friend gave him food and a place to sleep. He understood that his children must be alive and his wife should be in Switzerland with her parents. So he left a note to his children where it was written that he went to Switzerland to find his wife. This note he gave to the boy, who was living in the ruins and the boy promised to give it to Joseph’s children children if he see them.

ReplyDeleteI started reading the book called "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland"
The authors name is Lewis Carroll.
Short summary of chapter 1, "Down the Rabbit Hole."
Main characters: Alice and the white rabbit.
Alice was sitting next to her sister on the river bank on a hot summer's day, when Alice fell asleep. In her dream she saw a white rabbit jumping into a hole in the ground, so Alice decided to follow him, and she jumped into the hole right after him. Alice found herself in a room with a very small, locked door which led to a beautiful garden, but Alice was too big to enter. On the table Alice noticed a key and a bottle with the words: "Drink Me" printed, so Alice drank it and shrank to the right size to pass through the door, but she forgot the key to open the door on the table, and she was too short to reach it now.Alice found a cake with the words: "Eat Me" printed, so Alice ate the cake and got the key, but now she was too big to enter through the door..... I find this book very interesting, and it makes you want to read more and more. This chapter showed that Alice is very forgetful and curios.

The BFG - Author Roald Dahl
ReplyDeleteAt the start of the story a girl called Sophie is in bed but she can’t fall asleep. I remember when I was younger and I couldn’t go to sleep. The moonbeam is shining into her room through a gap in her curtains. The moonbeam was so bright that she couldn’t sleep because of it. Everything around her is quiet and very still and she thinks this is the witching hour that someone told her about. This is when everyone is asleep and dark things come out from their hiding places. Sophie gets out of her bed and looks out of the window. She knows she isn’t allowed to do this but she does.
First of all she sees nothing outside in the street and then suddenly she sees something moving. She sees a tall black figure moving down the street and she is scared. She keeps watching the black thing and thinks it looks like a giant. That’s when I thought it started to get exciting.
I have started reading 'The Tempest' by William Shakespeare. People call it a classic. I started reading it because I liked the cover and I haven't read it before.
ReplyDeleteIt starts with Prospero, a wise old duke, telling his daughter a story from the past about when they used to live in a palace.
They are banished from Milan where they lived. Then they get sent on a boat to drift at sea and die.
But instead of dying they find an island with sandy beaches and palm trees. Luckily the island has lots of food to eat. They find a cave to live in.
One day they find a spirit trapped in a twisted pine tree. It’s name is Ariel, it can do anything you want. Prospero sets it free by using his magic stick given to him by his enemy. Because Prospero set Ariel free, Ariel will be Prospero’s servant.
Prospero has a magic mirror as well. In his magic mirror he could see a ship with his enemies in. He orders Ariel to make it wavy so the ship hits the rocks and his enemies are shipwrecked on the island. He also orders for none of the enemies to die.
That is where I got to in the book. I think that Caliban, another servant that Prospero finds on the island, will turn bad and cause trouble.
I’m really excited about what is going to happen!

ReplyDeleteThe Thousand Orcs
ReplyDeleteThe story starts like this:
chapter 1 The alliance
He wore his masterwork plated armor as if it was an extension of his tough skin. not a piece of the interlocking black metal was flat and unadorned, with flowing designs and overlapping bas-reliefs.A pair of great curving spikes extended from each upper arm plate, and each joint cover had a sharpened and tri-pointed edge to it.
That is all i have read so far.
