My book report is about “The Tale of Desperaux” by Kate DiCamillo.Kate DiCamillo is of Italian origin and I think is a very skilled writer. In fact, she names some of her characters with Italian names. It is one of my favorite books of all time! It also makes me hungry! You will find out why soon…
The story takes place in a kingdom medieval England. The main characters are Princess Pea, Desperaux, Mig, and Chiaroscuro, the rat.
The story begins when a little mouse with big ears is born and his name is Desperaux. When the death of the queen by a heart attack, caused by a rat falling into her soup, occurs, the whole kingdom is depressed and gloomy. Princess Pea befriends Desperaux and is later captured by Chiaroscuro and a servant girl (the servant girl was sent to the castle to work and is very wierd and has trouble hearing)called Mig because the princess was mean to them and Desperaux rescues her. But then the king and Pea forgive Mig and Chiaroscuro and the story ends with a bowl of soup!
I haven’t read similar books because this one is so original. It’s possible that there are different books with this genre but I haven’t read them yet.
I think that this book is really sweet and forgiving! But it didn’t really make me think of my life.
Overall, I love this book that I’ve read it more than once! I would definitely recommend this book for my friends because it really connects with you.
Book report of Diary of a wimpy kid-Dog days By Albert S, 6A
I have been reading a book called “Diary of a wimpy kid-Dog days” by the author Jeff Kinney. He is also the illustrator of the book. This is his fourth book about his character Greg Heffley. I will write a little bit about the books settings, main characters, and a summary of the book. I will also discuss how the book connects with me, other books I read and include a conclusion.
The book takes place during the summer holidays. It is supposed to be present time. It mostly takes place in the main characters’ house which is in a town in the U.S.A. and in different places that the characters hang out. The main characters are; Gregory (Greg) Heffley - Greg is the main character in the book. He has trouble with his life and he has got weird ideas. He has two brothers called Rodrick and Manny and also a mum and a dad. Mrs. Heffley - Mrs. Heffley is Greg’s mum in the book. She plans fun activities for the family but they are not that good all the time. She also makes Greg embarrassed a lot. Mr. Heffley – Mr. Heffley is Greg’s dad. He is mostly mad in the book. He is also a kind dad. Manny Heffley -Manny Heffley is Greg’s little brother. Manny is sort of a wimp and doesn’t like Greg that much. Rodrick Heffley - Rodrick Heffley is Greg’s older brother. He and Greg hate each other and fight nearly all the time. Rowley Jefferson - Rowley Jefferson is Greg’s best friend although they fight sometimes. Like Manny, Rowley is a wimp.
This book is about Greg Heffley during his summer holidays. The book starts off with Greg and Rowley hanging out at the country-club until they get sent away. It doesn’t matter to Greg because he is rather indoors playing video games. Greg’s mum tells him that they are not going away on holiday this summer because they need to save money. Greg’s mum starts a club called Reading Is Fun Club for the boys around the neighborhood. No one likes the book club and everyone quits except for Greg. He has to stay because his mum tells him to. For his birthday, Greg wants a dog. Instead of a dog he gets a fish. After some weeks the fish dies and he gets a dog. At the end of the book Greg finally gets to go to the beach but that doesn’t go well either.
I have read similar books before but they are in Swedish. The books are called “Sune.” It’s a number of books, also about a boy and is written like a diary just like the “Diary of a wimpy kid” books. “The Diary of a wimpy kid” books are also a series of books. “Diary of a wimpy kid-Dog days” is book number four.
I really enjoyed this book because it made me laugh many times. Sometimes I felt sorry for Greg because he is a loser and his parents are embarrassing. I wouldn’t want to be him although it might be a fun life.
I would definitely recommend this book to other 6th graders because it is funny and it suits our age. That is because Greg is in our age and some situations are familiar. It is a very easy book to read if you don’t like reading. The illustrations are good and funny and make the book even greater.
I’m going to report about the book called “Narnia” by Clive Staples Lewis. He was born on the twenty ninth of November in 1898 and died on the twenty second of November in 1963. He was an Irish-born British novelist, academic, medievalist, literary critic, essayist, lay theologian and Christian apologist. Lewis’s works have been translated into more than 30 languages and have sold millions of copies over the years.
In my book, all the events happened in Narnia. Narnia is like a magic world where trees and animals can speak. Magic happens everywhere! The main characters are: Peter, Susan, Edmund, Lucy, Aslan, the Prince Caspian and the King Miraz.
While standing on a British railway station, awaiting their train to school after the summer holidays, Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie were magically whisked away to a beach near an old and ruined castle. They came to realise the ruin is Cair Paravel, where they once ruled as the Kings and Queens of Narnia, and discovered the treasure vault where Peter's sword and shield, Susan’s bow and arrows, and Lucy’s bottle of magical cordial and dagger were stored. Susan's horn for summoning help was missing, however, as she had left it in the woods the day they returned to England after their first visit to Narnia. Although only a year had passed in England, many centuries had passed in Narnia. That same day, they managed to rescue Trumpkin the dwarf from soldiers who had brought him to the ruins to drown him. Trumpkin told the children that since their disappearance, a race of men called Telmarines had invaded Narnia, driving the Talking Beasts into the wilderness and pushing even their memory underground. After that Narnia was ruled by the King Miraz and his wife Queen Prunaprismia, but the rightful king was Miraz's young nephew, the Prince Caspian, who had gained the support of the Old Narnians. Miraz had usurped the throne by killing his own brother, Caspian's father the King Caspian IX. Miraz tolerated Caspian until his own son was born. Then the Prince Caspian escaped with the aid of his tutor Doctor Cornelius, who had schooled him in the lore of Old Narnia. Caspian fled into the forest but he felt unconscious. He was awaked in the den by the talking badger, Trufflehunter, and two dwarfs, Nikabrik and Trumpkin, who accepted Caspian as their king. The badger and dwarves took Caspian to meet many creatures of Old Narnia. Then Doctor Cornelius arrived to warn them of approach of the King Miraz and his army. At the second war council, they discussed to use Queen Susan's horn or to bring Aslan or the Kings and Queens of the golden age. After that Narnia became alive because Aslan had come back. Peter challenged Miraz to a single combat. After the fight Miraz fell. Then Generals commanded Telmarine army to attack the narnians. The Telmarines surrendered. After a few days Aslan opened a magic door and children got back to Earth.
Before reading this book I had already read and watched the film in the cinema called “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”. I like this genre because it is very exciting and adventurous. Besides I had already read all the books from the collection called “Harry Potter”. I think that these types of genres are the same. As they both are exciting, adventurous and it’s impossible to stop reading such kind of books.
I can say that these characters inspire me because these children are very brave, powerful, impressive and they teach me to be more ambitious. Unfortunately all the events in this book can’t be real in our life. But anyway some problems which had happened in this book can be solved in our own life. I can also add that it’s hard to forget the characteristics of the characters. And I can empathize that reading these kinds of books give me great pleasure.
I can recommend reading this book to my classmates because it would be very interesting for them. I’d like to read more books of the chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis.
Book Report about this Morning I met a Whale. This book is called ‘this morning I met a whale’. It is written by Michael Morpurgo and illustrated by Christian Birmingham. It has a picture of a whale swimming down the river Thames on the front cover. It is set in Battersea, a town next to the river Thames. It is meant to be in 2006 when a real whale came down the river Thames. It is about a boy called Michael. He goes bird watching near the River Thames and instead he starts talking to a whale that can talk. But the whale has not just come here to talk about nothing; he has come to tell Michael about how the people need to save the environment. The whale’s grandfather was a great whale adventurer and had seen the bad environment and told his grandson to tell a child about the bad environment and then the children would tell the adults. The adults would sort it out. They make friends the boy and the whale while talking, so Michael promises that he will try his best to help the environment. He writes a story about what the whale said and tells it to the class. They don’t believe him until the headmaster tells them to come and look at a whale in the Thames river. Michael’s whale had got stuck on the bank and was dying. Then the whale died and the last words he spoke were ‘promise’. That is the end of the story. It makes me sad because the whale dies. It makes me think about the environment. It does connect with my life a bit because I was born in London, where the story is based. I recommend this book to my friends because it is almost true and makes you think about the environment. I liked this story because it had cool pictures and it was written well.
Charlie and the Chocolate factory is one of my favourite books by Roald Dahl. it's an exellent story, full of exciting moments.
This story is set in a great town where there is the biggest and the most famous chocolate factory in the world. The story is about Charlie who is poor 8 year old boy and Mr Willy Wonka who is the greatest inventor and maker of chocolates.
Charlie Bucket lived with six relatives in a very small house because they were poor. They never had enough money for food. So many times the whole family suffered from hunger. The only thing Charlie wanted was chocolate. To make things worse, he had to pass infront of a chocolate factory while the way to go the school. This factory was the biggest chocolate factory owned by Willy Wonka. It was a mysteries factory because the only thing that people could see was the smoke coming out from the chimneys without any people going in or out. One day Mr Wonka decided to invite five children to his factory and the lucky ones would those who found a Golden ticket inside the chocolate. The lucky children were fat Augustus, spoilt Veruca, violent Mike, disgusting Violet, and excited Charlie who found the fifth Golden ticket just the day before the opening. Once they were inside, all the children apart from Charlie were extremely naughty and broke all the rules in many different ways. The parents who were there had to save them and take them out of the factory. Charlie on the other hand was well behaved and because of this Mr Wonka surprised him by telling him that he had won the Chocolate factory. So together with his family they all went to live with Mr Wonka.
I have read other books by Roald Dahl such as George's marvellous medicine and Matilda. The similarities of these books was the fact, that the main characters were children who became happy at the end. In general, Roald Dahl's books are all fictitious, full of adventures.
I believe that Charlie deserved to win because he was never able to enjoy the simple luxuries of life. In my opinion the other children were all spoilt and could not appreciate things as Charlie did.
I would recommend it to my friends because this story is about sweets and full of exiting and funny moments.
In English we are starting to write our first drafts about our book reports. My book report is going to be about a book called Diary of a Wimpy Kid the title of the book is The Last Strawn. The author’s name is Jeff Kenney. He lives in Southern Massachusetts. He lives there with his wife Julie and his two sons Grant and will. I really enjoyed reading this book and I will like to share it with the rest of my class.
The book takes place in more than one place, there is the school, his house, and camp site there is the hotel and a few other places. The main characters are Greg, Manny, Greg’s dad and Greg’s mom. This story took place when he was still at school but also when the school year and new year. In the beginning of the book Greg and his family celebrate New Year. In his family they always have family revolutions, this is when a New Year starts and they are making new rules or achievements, his dad told the family that he would go on a huge diet, but after dinner he sneaked outside and started eating more and more junk food. When Greg goes to school, he always has to wait in front of the bathroom door before he could shower. The only problem was that the floor was always freezing cold, and when he brought hid blanket with him only his back was covered and the his feet were freezing on the marble floor. He did have a heater but that heater would overheat after 5 minutes. Then he found his mom’s bathrobe, and he wore it when he had to wait for his mom to get out of the shower. Te next problem Greg had was that the school bus wouldn’t pick him up any more, so he had to walk to school. The other thing Greg didn’t like was when he had time to watch TV what he wants with his mom, Manny always came and then they had to watch children’s TV. The other thing the whole family didn’t like was that they had to go to the neighbours every 6 months to celebrate their Childs half birthday. In the end of the book Greg’s dad want to sent Greg to military camp, this is also a school.
I have read a lot of other but with this book you can’t really compare with other books other authors wrote. I read 1 other book the same author wrote but you can’t really compare it either. The books this author writes are always different in its own way. The truth is there are almost no similarities with other book, especially other people’s books. I really like this book when I first read it I immediately started laughing that is how funny this book is. When I read this book it made me think about my brother and I was thinking what mean thing will he do next, to me. I really like the characters, I think they are quite funny and some are evil, like Greg’s brother. I wouldn’t mind reading this book again. I also don’t mind laughing in the same places.
It has been really fun reading this book because, it is interesting in the weirdest moments and you can just sit there for hours reading the same book over and over again. I will recommend this book to other 6th graders, which enjoy funny books. I would recommend it because 1. As I said so you can’t stop reading the book, and it just suites all the children which like funny books 2. If you are just bored and you want to set a trap or something like that on your other sibling or if your parents want to do something that you don’t want to do, well in this book is the answer to escape from those problems.
This is a book report about a novel which is all about football and it is called Goal!. The author is Robert Rigby and this is the first story of his that I have read. I chose this book because it is my favourite book as it is about a sport that I am very passionate about. In fact I love football so much that I even enjoy reading about it.
At the beginning the setting of the story is in Mexico because this is where the main character Santiago is from. The rest of the story setting is in Newcastle in the North of England. Apart from Santiago, the other main characters are Glen Foy who is a football scout and his job is find new players with football talent. Gavin Harris, who is a Premier league football player and Rose who is a nurse and has a romantic relationship with Santiago. The story is set around 2004 and at the start it is cold and it is winter. This is important in the story as Santiago was not used to this weather.
This story is about a young football player called Santiago who is around 20 years old and comes from Mexico While Santiago was playing a football match the football scout spotted his brilliant talent. Glen Foy offers him a trial at Newcastle United and Santiago agrees to go there. At first it is hard and he struggles but he makes the reserve team. He plays well and then he has the opportunity to play for the first team although there are loads of bumps along the way. He meets Gavin Harris who is also a striker and they became best friends. Santiago has to go for a fitness check up and he meets Rose (a nurse in the hospital) and hides the fact that he has asthma from her and from the team manager. Newcastle United are doing really well in the league table and on their way to qualify for the champions league cup. During an important game, one of Santiago’s rivals sees him using his asthma inhaler and deliberately steps on it so Santiago can’t use it for the game. He needs it and has an asthma attack and his friend Gavin saves him. After that he gets better and better. At the end of the story it is the last game of the season and Santiago comes on as a substitute. In the final minute of the game Santiago is failed and a free kick is awarded by the referee. Santiago takes the kick and scores an amazing goal which means Newcastle qualify for the Champions League.
I had seen the movie and then read the book. This was the first football book I read because usually I find football stories not real enough. The other books where a bit childish. The genre is fiction with some romance. The theme of a person living his dream is in other books I have also read. The next book by the same author is called Goal 2 which I have read and is just as good as this one.
I could connect with this book because it is about someone who dreams of being a professional footballer and that is what I dream of. Also I know what it is like not to have you asthma inhaler when you need it because I have asthma too. I thought the author must have done a lot of research because he really understood the players and the game. I felt sad when Santiago was sad and when he scored a goal I felt happy and it made me want to shout GOAL! I could picture myself at training especially when it was cold and wet because the description was so real.
Although I really enjoyed this book I wouldn’t recommend it for 6th graders. It is mainly about football so if you don’t particularly enjoy the playing sport or are passionate about it then you will not connect with the story. Also it is about an English football team called Newcastle who are in the North of England and some people might not like the team.
I am reading a book called “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”. The author’s name is Louis Carroll and the book was first published in 1865.
The story takes place in “Wonderland” and there are many strange creatures and strange things happen there. It takes place along time ago, around the middle of the 19th century. The main characters are: Alice and the White Rabbit.
The book is about is about Alice falling asleep, and in her dream she follows the White Rabbit into Wonderland. She follows him all the time and in her adventure she meets some strange animals and drinks potions that make her big and small. She has a party with some animals, and then some adventures in the woods. She drinks tea with a march hare and a hatter, and their conversation was extremely strange and confusing. Alice didn't understand what they were talking about. She went to play golf and some strange way ended up in court. There were playing cards, who talked and did everything what humans do.They attacked her, and Alice was so scared, that she woke up. It was a dream.
This book connects with the book called “Through the Looking Glass” which was written by the same author, Louis Carroll. I read a bit of this book and it was very similar because the theme is the same, “fantasy”. In both books Alice has some adventures.
The book made me feel bored because I didn’t find it very interesting. The book made me think about food, because there were a lot of delicious types of foods in the book. A moment in the book happened once when I was at school; A teacher asked me to do something, and I didn’t understand what to do, and the same thing happened to Alice, a creature asked her to do something, and she didn’t understand what to do.
No, I do not recommend this book to other 6th graders because the book is boring and the book is not for 6th graders. It has too many unrealistic things, and I think this book is for 3rd and 4th graders.
Im writing a book report about a book called Matilda, the author was Roald Dahl, the book came out in 1988, but the movie called Matilda was made in 1996.
There are many places where Matilda goes in the book, like school(on school days) and ofcoarse at her house most of the time(because she lives there).
In the beggining Matilda is new to a school and she goes to grade 1 or 2, she appears to be too smart and Miss Honey wants to tell the principal but she doesn't listen so she goes to tell her parents that Matilda is too smart but they didnt care so miss Honey gets angry that there is a girl that should go to grade 6 and no-one cares about that. When miss Honey tells Matilda about her life, that the principal is her aunt and when she was younger Miss Honey's parents died so her aunty had to look after her but she used to be really angry with Miss Honey and beat her and stuff like that. When Miss Honey became old enough she lived away from her aunt in a different house. But the thing she would never forget was her favourite doll that her aunt took away from her when she was young. Matilda felt sad for her so she got the doll for her but the principal found out Matilda was in her house, stole some chocolates and the doll. But at the end the Principal didn't do anything to Matilda and Miss Honey because of Matilda's strengh ( she could move something by ONLY looking at it ). The end was happy because Matilda's parents didnt really care about Matilda and agreed of her staying with Miss Honey as a daughter forever. Then both of them lived happily ever after.
I have read half of Roald Dahl's books and i think all of them have the same type of ending, happy one. But i haven't read somthing like Matilda book before.
I don't think the book connects with me because im not as smart as Matilda and i can't move stuff by just looking at them. But i think the boy that is from the book that eats lots of chocolate is like me, i love chocolate too, but nothing else connects with me.
I reccomend this book to the other 6th graders because it has a happy ending and the things in the book can happen in real life, its a non-fiction book. It has some problems that is common and it can help you how to solve it, maybe.

Book Report
ReplyDeleteIn English we are starting to write our first drafts about our book reports.
I would recommend it because
1. As I said so you can’t stop reading the book, and it just suites all the children which like funny books
2. If you are just bored and you want to set a trap or something like that on your other sibling or if your parents want to do something that you don’t want to do, well in this book is the answer to escape from those problems.

Book Report – Final copy
ReplyDeleteThis is a book report about a novel which is all about football and it is called Goal!.
Book Report – First Draft.
ReplyDeleteI am reading a book called “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”.

Book report on Matilda.
ReplyDeleteIm writing a book report about a book called Matilda, the author was Roald Dahl, the book came out in 1988, but the movie called Matilda was made in 1996.
